14th Street Apartment, New York NY

A small studio apartment on 14th Street was renovated to maximize space. Our strategy was to design folding, pivoting, and built-in furniture for flexible living.
Lining one side of the apartment is a living wall: couch and Murphy bed. The opposite wall is organized by curved shelving. The shelving acts as a pivoting door for access to the residual storage space behind.

The bed in the vertical position provides back and head support for the couch section below. The sectional couch wraps around past the bed to fill the inside corner of the studio. The bending curve of the couch is expressed by the dense pattern of upholstered cushions and structural back supports.
