Warren Street Kitchen, Brooklyn NY

This project started with a standard efficiency kitchen, which we expanded and transformed into a space that is both a functional cooking and eating area and a valuable space for entertaining.
We stripped out all of the existing walls and fittings and opened the room up, and developed a strategy of reorganization and concealment that allows the space to be truly multi-functional.

We stripped out all of the existing walls and fittings and opened the room up, and we developed a strategy of reorganization and concealment that allows the space to be truly multi-functional. As the main point of entry, we wanted the space to be open and subtle in purpose but have a strong presence in color and light. Two elements now clearly organize the space: a wall of orange cabinets, which acts as the main storage for food, utensils, refrigerator, and a counter and table with built-in appliances that is the new focus of the room.

Within the big orange cube, a white cutaway keeps all the counter top appliances accessible. The bar counter and table are white glass with fluorescent lighting underneath for evening illumination.
